T&S 2019 Conference Technical Tour - Cape Town to Cape Point
Thursday 26 September 2019
The technical tour will start with a visit to the Paterson & Cooke Slurry Test Facility which is located approximately 10 km from the conference venue. The tour will then continue with an excursion around the Cape Peninsula to showcase the natural beauty of this area combined with a lunch stop for local hospitality, good food, and wine.
Our route for the day will take you through a large portion of Table Mountain National Park which acquired UNESCO World Heritage status due to the prolific Cape Floral Kingdom across the Cape Peninsula. Join the locals as we celebrate spring after the welcome drought relief which brought dam levels to an average of 60%, and a promising flower season.
We will enjoy the views of Hout Bay, the Sentinel Peaks, and Noordhoek beach as we wind our way along the 114 curves and 9km of Chapman’s Peak Drive. First built in 1915, this historic mountain pass became a well-known engineering triumph in SA after the three-year rehabilitation project in 2000.
From here we will travel to our lunch venue in the coastal village of Scarborough, before visiting Cape Point Reserve and the Cape of Good Hope. Our return journey via the False Bay coastline and famous playground of Southern Right and Humpback whales, will take us past the headquarters of the South African Navy in Simon’s Town before our return to the city.
